Revitalizing the WW2 Memorial Website

American Battle Monument Commission - (ABMC)

Role: User Experience Designer

I had the privilege of collaborating on a project with the American Battle Monument Commission (ABMC) to redesign the WW2 Memorial website.

The project was very significant as it marked the first redesign of the website in almost two decades, emphasizing the critical need to optimize the user experience and revitalize the website.

Challenge

The Challenge: The WW2 Memorial website required a complete redesign to enhance its user experience, especially given the long duration since its last update.

Key Objectives: The primary goal was to deliver a modern, accessible, and user-friendly redesign.

Process

During the discovery phase, our team worked to understand the goals of the website and identify areas that need to be updated in order to develop a comprehensive strategy to modernize the WWII Memorial website and make information more accessible and targeted.

  • Stakeholder Interviews: I conducted 8 stakeholder interviews across 3 different departments.

  • Heuristic Analysis: I recorded qualitative observations about the current site pages

  • Competitive Analysis: We evaluated 5 similar websites to gain insights into the features, functions, and designs used.

UX Research Findings Excerpts:

Results

My team’s comprehensive review and findings presentation proved instrumental in securing buy-in from the client, which allowed us to swiftly progress to visual design and development, ensuring the project stayed on schedule and delivered a modern and user-friendly design.

The client was highly satisfied with the revitalized website, which now effectively conveys the historical significance of the WW2 Memorial while catering to contemporary user needs. This project highlights my ability to collaborate effectively, conduct in-depth research, and secure client buy-in for critical projects.
